Edby Davis papers, 1914-1965.

The Edby Davis Papers consist mainly of diaries written by Edby Davis from 1914 to 1965. There are also manuscripts, correspondence, notebooks, and photos relating to Mr. Davis' various interests. In the diaries Fairbanks' business, recreation, politics, and major events such as floods and earthquakes are convered. The manuscripts deal with baseball and Alaska's enlisted men during WWI. Journals, clippings, and a photo collection are also included.

Mr. Davis was born in Seattle on September 20, 1894. His given name, "Edward Wilbur" soon became "Edby." The family moved to Fairbanks in 1906 from Dawson. Davis grew up in Fairbanks, served most of his military duty in Alaska and was employed at Northern Commercial Company. He continued his education in Washington, D.C., married Miss Annella Van Devanter in North Carolina in 1924. They returned to Fairbanks in 1927 where he spent the remainder of his working days.
